Sarah Wark captured the B.C. women’s curling championship at the West Fraser Centre in Quesnel, defeating Corryn Brown of Kamloops 7-4 in the final.
Wark, from Abbotsford, built up a 6-1 lead after six ends.
The Wark team includes third Kristen Pilote, a former Prince George resident, and her sister Jen Rusnell of P.G. who is the 5th.
They are coached by (Pilote’s and Rusnell’s dad) Rick Fewster of Prince George.
Wark, who topped the round robin with a 6-1 record, advances to the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts February 16th to 24th in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Team Wark will now represent BC at the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The Brett Richards rink from Prince George/Kelowna/Victoria placed 3rd out of eight after a 6-4 loss to Brown in the women’s semi-final.
Richards, who has her sister Blaine je Jager of P.G. at 3rd, is coached by Doug Dalziel of Prince George.
The B.C. men’s curling championship was also held in Quesnel.
Jim Cotter of Vernon/Kelowna dominated the 12-team event, not losing a game.
Cotter crushed Jason Montgomery of Victoria 9-4 in the men’s final for his eighth provincial title.
His team qualifies for the Tim Hortons Brier March 2nd to 10th in Brandon.
