Sentence Handed Down To Man Accused Of Stealing Good Samaritan’s Truck

A man accused of stealing the truck of a good samaritan, who had pulled over to help him, has pleaded guilty in Williams Lake provincial court.

28-year old Gerald Pierce pled guilty to one count each of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to 12 months probation and an 18-month driving prohibition.

He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,469.

Several other charges, Possession of Stolen Property, Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, and Breach of Undertaking, were stayed.

35-year old Carmen McDonald, the co-accused in this case, was acquitted of Resisting or Obstructing a Police Officer, and several other counts were stayed.

All of these charges are in connection with an incident back in June.

Williams Lake RCMP say a man stopped at the scene of an accident on Highway 97 to help, and that the two people who were involved in the crash, then stole his truck.

Quesnel RCMP, the Emergency Response Team,Police Dog Services and a helicopter were all called in to help, and eventually they were able to make a couple of arrests.
