Residents charged with arson in Quesnel get trial date

A trial date has been set for two Quesnel residents charged in connection with a suspicious fire last year.

29-year old John Junior Elkins and 25-year old Christine Elkins will be back in court on August 4th.

They are charged with one count each of Arson, Mischief Endangering Life, Mischief over 5 thousand dollars and Mischief under 5 thousand.

Quesnel RCMP and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department were called out to a residence in the 200 block of Hartley Street just before 2 am on June 13th of last year.

Police say they arrived to find a vehicle on fire in the driveway.

RCMP say they used fire extinguishers from their patrol cars to extinguish the flames.

Police say further investigation revealed that the suspects had also smashed several windows of the residence before fleeing the scene.

RCMP said at the time that they believed this was a targeted act.
