Fraser and Quesnel Rivers are very fast flowing RMCP warn after man swept downstream

A 27-year-old male from Victoria is lucky to be alive after being swept downstream the Fraser River.

Quesnel RCMP confirms that at approximately 2:20 pm Thursday afternoon an RCMP member on bike patrol spotted a male struggling in the Fraser River.

All on-duty members responded and within 6 minutes the male was safe on shore.

RCMP say the male had gone into the river in an attempt to reach the other side and was swept downstream.

EHS attended and examined him, who RCMP say was fortunate to have escaped uninjured.

RCMP would like to remind the public that both the Fraser and Quesnel Rivers are very fast flowing and filled with debris this time of year and even the most experienced swimmers can quickly become exhausted and begin to struggle.
