Grand opening for Cariboo Autism Centre in Williams Lake

It was a big day for children and families across the Cariboo Wednesday morning with the grand opening of the CDC’s (Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre Association) Autism Centre in Williams Lake.

97-year-old, Aileen Hewett who had started the idea of the CDC back in 1972, says she had always hoped things would end up this way.

Executive Director Nancy Gale, says she is extremely excited of the 1.2 million dollar project which had also included an addition to the main CDC building to provide more office and program activity space.

Gale says the CDC was able to self-fund about 71% of the project, with support from the Toronto Dominion Bank and Community Centres.

The CCDC is currently working at fundraising a mile of loonies through their Mile of Change initiative to pay down the bank loan and line of credit.
