Bella Coola Fisherman Missing

Bella Coola RCMP confirms that they received notification of a missing person on May 15th at 6:40 pm.

RCMP say a local 35-year-old man was last seen cleaning the deck at the front of his commercial fishing vessel that was returning to the Bella Coola wharf from the North Bentick Arm Channel.

The man was last confirmed on the boat at 5:30 p.m. and not noticed missing until 6:00 p.m. by crew members who immediately conducted a search of the area covered in the last half hour.

A search team was dispatched which included; local Search and Rescue (SAR), Regional Coordinating Centre for SAR, local Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Coast Guard, SAR Helicopter and Fixed Wing aircraft.

The search was suspended on Monday, May 18th at 12:30 after a 3-day intensive search with negative results to locate the missing man.

RCMP say the case remains as a missing person investigation.

No foul play is suspected.
