$901,000 in cuts made before balanced budget for SD 28 passes Wednesday evening

The elimination of managerial positions and the reduction of teaching positions and .5 of a custodian, and no more International Program.

Those are just a few of the cuts made by Quesnel’s Board of Education to come up with a balanced budget for the 2015-2016 school year.

Secretary-Treasurer Teri Stoneman acknowledges that it wasn’t easy…

“I tell you it was really difficult for the Board.”

“There was a combination of enrollment decline that was about $700,000 and then of course Ministry of Education implemented a ministry reduction on top of that for a further $222,000.”

“The Board was looking at about $901,000.”

There were also cuts to the budgets of equipment replacement, learning resources software and diesel fuel.

The Board also had to dip into a projected surplus for this year to balance the books.
