Tsilhqot’in Nation support Federal Court’s decision to move forward with judicial reviews on Taseko’s proposed New Prosperity Mine

“We believe we have a very strong case so let’s get on with it.”

That from Joe Alphonse, Tribal Chair of the Tsilhqot’in National Government (TNG) in his response to the news that the Federal Court will move forward with two judicial reviews as opposed to a full trial on the rejection of Taseko Mine’s proposed New Prosperity Project.

Alphonse says this process will take months rather than years which he says suits First Nations who are anxious to get into the courtroom…

“That courtroom is based on actual facts, scientific evidence, this is not about pr, this is not about politicking, this is about telling what’s actually out there and based on that they don’t have anything and we’re very confident in our position.”

“We want to get this case, this situation over and done with and behind us and we want to move forward”

Alphonse goes on to say that this is a company that chooses not to recognize First Nations Rights and Title.

He says he believes that Taseko is not capable of working with any First Nation unlike others in British Columbia and in Canada.
