Cariboo Fire Centre to assist in forest fire outside of Prince George

Help is on the way for crews trying to contain a forest fire 70 kilometers southwest of Prince George.

Cariboo Fire Centre Information Officer, Emily Epp says Cariboo personnel will be on scene.

“Two unit crews, which are 20 packs of people are currently en-route to help fight this fire.”

“As well provincially they have an incident management team on the way.”

More than 125 firefighting staff are battling the blaze with 100 others expected to lend a hand.

Epp says smoke from the blaze may turn up within the region.

“Especially up by Quesnel, people will very likely be seeing smoke and probably even smelling it.”

The 2,500-hectare fire which was spotted yesterday around Norman Lake has forced the evacuation of dozens of people from their homes.

It is believed to have been human-caused and has grown to 4,000 hectares as of Tuesday.
