Mt. Polley Reopening Permit Gets Targeted by National Day of Actions

From the Ministry of Energy and Mines Office in Vancouver to the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Secwepemc Women Warriors Society have planned coordinated actions across the country and in the United States for what is being called the National Day of Action to STOP Mt. Polley Reopening Permit today.

Organizer and Secwempemc Warrior, Kanahus Manuel says that allowing Imperial Metals to reopen the Mount Polley mine is a violation of sovereignty and opens the territory up to further damage.

She argues that Imperial Metals has no consent from the Secwepemc.

100 public comments on the temporary restart permit have currently been submitted; 80 of which from environmental organizations and activists outside of the province according to Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb.

Public comments on Mt. Polley’s permit for a temporary restart of operations will be accepted until May 2nd.
