RCMP warn public of recent incidences of fraud

Williams Lake RCMP is warning the public of a recent series of incidences of fraud.

RCMP say one person’s bank account was debited $5000 after he provided his personal information in response to an email indicating he had an outstanding tax bill.

A second person meanwhile had sent $2500 while trying to purchase a puppy online.

RCMP say the money was sent electronically to someone the purchaser had never met.

RCMP  say they caution people about divulging any personal information in response to unsolicited requests and to use caution when sending money, especially when it is being sent internationally.

Anyone with further information on these incidents or any other crime is asked to contact Williams Lake RCMP (250-392-6211) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
