RCMP stress firearm safety following accidental shooting

The Quesnel RCMP are reminding individuals to treat all firearms as if loaded following an accidental shooting on Saturday.

RCMP and BC Ambulance responded to a report of a shooting on Callis Road shortly after 6 pm.

Upon arrival, RCMP says they located a 40-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the arm from a family member.

The victim was transported to GR Baker hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

An investigation determined the shooting was accidental with the firearm mistakenly believed to have been unloaded and discharging while being handled.

RCMP Cst. Krista Vrolyk says the unfortunate incident could have been prevented.
