Highway 97 North of Cache Creek Reopens Following Mudslide

Update: Highway 97 north of Cache Creek has since reopened following yet another mudslide.

Drive BC reported Thursday afternoon that the Hwy is now open to two lanes.

“There is a 50 km speed limit,” it said on its’ webpage.

“Please watch for dust, debris, and heavy equipment that is working.”

The highway was closed earlier in both directions due to a mudslide that occurred late Wednesday evening.

Mudslide activity was also seen on Hwy 99 from Hat Creek Corner to BC Hwy 99.  Motorists in the area were advised early Thursday morning by DriveBC to watch for muddy sections.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure told MyCaribooNow that mudslide activity in the area earlier this month was the result of heavy rain moving through the area which was severely burned upslope from the highway during last year’s wildfires.
