Land stability issue closes West Fraser Rd. at Deep Creek Hill

West Fraser Road remains closed in both directions at Deep Creek Hill due to a land stability issue.

Brad Moores, with the Ministry of Transportation, says they continue to monitor movement but he says it is still moving too much to repair.

He says it is moving 4 to 6 inches a day towards the river and has dropped vertically in a week by about 0.6 of a meter.

Moores says they have had some geotechnical engineers look at the site and once the movement gets down to less than an inch of movement a day they will come up with a work plan to do the repair.

He says there is movement in this area every year but he says this is the worst it’s ever been.

There is an alternate route for motorists.

Those heading south can go onto Garner Road for about 33 kilometers and then onto Webster Lake Road for about 11 kilometers.

Of course, the situation is reversed for those heading north.

Signs are posted.
