Open House of Disappointment For Likely Residents

Various representatives, from the Ministry of Environment to Golder Associates, offered displays and answers in Likely last night.

Imperial Metals, Steve Robertson, was at the open-house and says Imperial is still continuing to work with homeowners to install water filtration systems.

“We put in larger systems than what would normally be installed in a house-system because we want to make sure that they last for a long time…It took a while for them to get ordered in.”

Likely business owner and resident Steve Peterson, however, says he feels let down as he is one of many homeowners still waiting for the installation.

“They’re not doing anything to help us…They just keep telling us what they think we want to hear to keep us quiet.”

Robertson says he expected more filters to arrive yesterday and that residents can still get water from Spanish Mountain.

For Peterson though, he says he will continue to buy water with his own money until he gets a filter installed.

Other residents, including Jim Gibson, meanwhile, left the open-house disappointed with how things were set-up.

“You don’t get to hear the questions that people are asking unless you just happen to be at the table at the time.”

Gibson left the open-house in half an hour and says he didn’t learn anything.

The next community open house in Likely is not scheduled until Sept. 18.
