More Progress On Narcosli Creek Wildfire

More progress has been made on the Narcosli Creek wildfire that has 33 properties on Evacuation Order and thousands of others, including in West Quesnel, on Evacuation Alert.

Fire Information Officer Jessica Mack has the details…

“As of yesterday the fire is now 90 percent guarded around the perimeter of the fire and it is 50 percent contained. Night operations with heavy equipment ground crews did work through the night again. Bucketing operations have been limited due to poor visibility. However five helicopters are on site to assist when conditions allow.”

Mack says crews will continue to focus on constructing machine guards on the northeast flank today.

The Blackwater River fire, about 72-kilometers west of Quesnel is mapped at 4,519 hectares and is still zero percent contained…

“There are 17 personnel, a helicopter and 6 pieces of heavy equipment on site. Right now we are formulating a containment plan and will be mobilizing resources to that fire. We are planning to utilize road systems and cut blocks in the area for ground crews to tie a guard into.”

Mack says there is an aggressive fire to the west of the Blackwater River as well.

She says the North Baseako wildfire is now estimated at 25-hundred hectares, up from one thousand.

And the Shag Creek wildfire, that has 901 properties in the north western CRD Boundary to west of Nazko which includes the Kluskus, Batnuni, and Titetown areas, on Evacuation Order, is still listed at 8,410 hectares in size and remains out of control.

Mack says there are still no resources on that fire as it is still not safe.

There are currently 81 active wildfires burning in the Cariboo Fire Centre area.
