Referendum for Two New Fire Trucks for the Interlakes Fire Protection Area Coming Up

An open house took place at the Interlakes Fire Hall #2 Wednesday as a referendum for two new fire trucks approaches.

“Some of our CRD staff were out there as well as the fire chief and the department,” said Emily Epp, Manager of Communications for the Cariboo Regional District.

“Several members of the public came out to see the trucks that need to be replaced and to see the new truck that we are going to be purchasing because they’ve already got one of those new trucks earlier this year.”

The referendum if successful would result in the CRD borrowing $800,000 to replace the two fire trucks in 2019 and 2021.

There would be no change to current taxes.

General voting day will take place August 18th with advance voting days on August 8th and 13th.

“All fire departments have the same implications on the expiry dates for their vehicles so this is definitely something that we’re going to be looking at when other fire trucks need to be replaced at other departments,” Epp said.
