Quesnel’s Tarp City Coming Down ?

It appears that Quesnel’s tarp city is coming down.

Quesnel City Council has given the owner of the property on Warden Street until August 19th to do it but officials at this week’s meeting indicated that the owner said it would happen sooner than that.

It follows a remedial action order that was unanimously approved at the July 17th Council meeting.

The move was taken because the site is considered a nuisance under section 74 of the Community Charter.

The order states that the tarps, trailers and any debris must be removed within 30 days or the city will do it and then charge the property owner Byron Antonovich for the work.

Council started getting complaints back in late June for things such as noise, vandalism, the small of human feces and fires.

Mayor Bob Simpson says one neighbour told him that he was afraid to go on holidays until the people were gone while another, who is trying to sell his home, felt that that was impossible as well, until the tarp city came down.
