Discolored water safe to drink City says following fire hydrant mishap

The City of Williams Lake says any remaining discoloration of water for residents in and around the Western Avenue-Pacific Avenue is safe following a press release late this afternoon.

The discoloration was caused by a motor vehicle accident last night in which a fire hydrant was knocked off and expelled a large amount of water, according to the City.

Residents with remaining discolored water, which is most likely due to manganese, are encouraged to run their taps until clear.

The City says newer firer hydrants normally do not expel water when having been run over in a motor vehicle accident and that they will be replacing the hydrant with a newer model.

Residents with further information are asked to contact Municipal Services at 250-392-8487.
