Campfires to Be Prohibited in Kamloops, Southeast Fire Centre

Campfires will prohibited as of Thursday, July 26 at noon throughout the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centre’s jurisdictions.

The BC Wildfire Service said the Southeast Fire Centre is currently experiencing hot and dry conditions while ‘moderate’ or ‘high’ ratings in the Kamloops Fire Centre will likely increase this week.

Since July 23, there has been 796 wildfires across the province that have burned an estimated 55,631 hectares.

Fire Information Jessica Mack confirmed to MYCARIBOONOW that should the hot and dry weather continue that a campfire ban will likely be implemented for the Cariboo Fire Centre.

Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures as high as 33°C for Williams Lake and Quesnel this week.
