Quesnel Track Athlete Qualifies For Nationals

A Quesnel athlete has qualified for the National Track & Field Championships.

Bazil Spencer, who will be going into grade 12 in the fall, won the high-jump competition at the BC Athletics Championships in Coquitlam earlier this month.

His winning jump was two metres, which was a personal best and is tied for the highest jump this year for athletes under the age of 18.

Spencer will compete in the youth division for B.C., which will take place from August 10th to 12th in Brandon, Manitoba.

Earlier this year at the High School Provincials, Spencer actually placed second in the high-jump, but he did it in running shoes.

He now uses special high jump spikes which has made a difference and is now training with the Kamloops Track Coach who just happens to be former Olympian Dylan Armstrong.
