Rural RCMP Calls a Concern

Williams Lake RCMP have seen a 10 percent increase in rural calls from last year.

Most of the calls however, have been speeding or collisions, and not criminal code violations.

RCMP inspector Jeff Pelley met with the Cariboo Regional District board to discuss rural policing issues.

The detachment’s strategy to reduce rural crime is to increase their presence. The detachment has added 26 shifts over the summer in rural areas, and has seen a decrease in offences related to speed, and impairment, and has also seen less collisions.
