Caboose Opening at Lone Butte Rocks

The old BC Rail caboose that once sat in the parking lot at Save on Foods in 100 Mile House hasn’t reached the end of the line just yet.

The caboose is now a part of the rail park at Lone Butte. It celebrates its opening as a museum at the annual Lone Butte Rocks Celebration today.

Al Jones, president of the Lone Butte Historical Association says the caboose took a large crane and flatbed to move from 100 Mile House last year, after it was purchased by the association.  “We had a lot of volunteer help, and two fire departments. We escorted it out here and lifted it onto the track, which we’d already prepared, that was donated by CP Rail. We applied for a grant, and turned it into a museum.”

The caboose has documents and articles that chart the history of Lone Butte from the beginning all the way to present day.

Lone Butte rocks is an annual celebration in the town of Lone Butte. The events go on into the afternoon throughout the town, with entertainment and events at the firehall, train park and community hall.
