Williams Lake public works staff were on clean up Wednesday morning on Mackenzie Avenue at Oliver Street of the debris of a single motor vehicle incident that occurred Monday.
Manager of Water and Waste, Joe Engelberts says that the incident happened around 3:30 am damaging a lot of the City’s infrastructure including a hydro pole, exposed aggregate planters, and a log sign.
“We had two public works staff there this morning cleaning up with a loader and some equipment,” he explains.
“The first day was spent with BC Hydro changing out that hydro pole-that was a priority and it took them all day to do that. Then yesterday we had other projects on the go so we couldn’t get there until this morning.”
Engelberts says he is not certain of the dollar amount in terms of the damage, and that the City is working with ICBC to get everything repaired.
RCMP said it was determined that the driver swerved unexpectedly and struck a hydro pole.
“The driver was assisted by witnesses who stopped at the scene,” said Inspector Jeff Pelley noting the mater is still under investigation.
“There were no injuries and no indicators of speed or alcohol being an issue.”
