A request for a zoning amendment to permit a beer and wine store at the Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre in Williams Lake will be going forward to public hearing.
Council unanimously gave first and second readings to the request by Platform Properties Ltd. at its regular meeting Tuesday.
Councillor Craig Smith said at one time the City was considering moving the BC Liquor Store from Oliver St. up to that location and asked if there are any regulations as to how many such stores a town can have as Williams Lake already has quite a few.
Director of Development Services, Leah Hartley confirmed that the City can only act on a set of guidelines on location with respect to the distance from schools, daycares, and existing establishments.
She said that the applicant met all of those guidelines.
Mayor Walt Cobb also confirmed that the BC Liquor Store would not be moving as their license was renewed for another 5 years.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for August 14th.
If permitted it would bring the number of liquor stores in Williams Lake and area up to eight.
Councillors Ivan Bonnell and Sue Zacharias were not in attendance.
