Zoning Amendment Requested for Beer and Wine Store At Prosperity Ridge

Platform Properties Ltd. is seeking a zoning amendment that would allow for a beer and wine store at its’ Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre in Williams Lake.

Platform Properties submitted the request to Council who will be considering giving it first and second reading, and early referral to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure due to its proximity to Highway 20 on Tuesday.

In its request Platform Properties said that the private liquor store operation is proven to function well and will complement the shopping centre well.

“This would bring a new business into Williams Lake and contribute to a more well-rounded shopping destination for residents in the community.”

The subject property according to a report by City Planner, Hasib Nadvi is already zoned and serviced to accommodate various commercial uses which would be adequate to support the proposed use.

“Furthermore, the subject property is well suited for liquor store establishment being that has comparatively good security through video camera surveillance and improved lighting and that it is not in close proximity (i.e. 400m) to schools or licensed commercial daycares,” said Nadvi.

‘Beer and Wine Store’ is not currently a permitted use under the definition of ‘Retail’ use in the City of Williams Lake Zoning Bylaw.
