Maintenance Work Taking Place this Summer on Bella Coola Hill

Expect one-hour delays if you’re traveling the Bella Coola Hill.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says it is carrying out maintenance work on Highway 20, approximately 50 kilometers east of Hagensborg.

The work excluding long weekends is taking place daily from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm and the road is reduced to single lane, alternating traffic.

“Grading and graveling is taking place on the entire 18 km section of Heckman Pass (the Bella Coola Hill) from the avalanche gates at the top of the hill to the beginning of the seal coat at the bottom,” said a Ministry spokesperson.

“Work is approximately 60% complete, and is on target to finish by mid-August.”

All drivers are reminded to obey traffic control personnel while traveling through the work area.
