Cariboo Unemployment Hasn’t Been This Low Since 2015

The unemployment rate in the Cariboo is now the lowest it’s been in more than three years.

Vincent Hardy, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats Canada, goes over some of the numbers…

“Compared with June 2017 the unemployment rate was down 1.4 percentage points to 5.5 percent. In terms of people in employment that number is 84,200 thousand.

That is up from 81,300 a year ago.

The 5.5 percent unemployment figure is down from 6.9 in June of 2017 and the lowest it’s been since March of 2015.

It’s also lower than the national jobless rate which is an even 6 percent.

Hardy says the biggest gains in employment in the Cariboo came in the construction industry while there were minor declines in transportation and warehousing.
