Tourism Numbers Down Slightly for June

The number of tourists for June was down slightly from last year in the 100 Mile area.

Val Strieber from the South Cariboo Visitors Center says that the numbers were comparable to last year for April and May, But dropped about five percent in June.

“It was so hot, then dropped so cool, that I don’t think anyone was really travelling. The European and American visitors were up a bit, but the Canadians, we didn’t get as many as usual.” Strieber attributes this to the wildfires from last year.  “We’re all kind of leery right now.”

Strieber says the numbers should increase after the last few weeks of wet weather.
