Fire Protection Referendum Passes

Referendum results are in for the Thompson Nicola Regional Districts public vote on establishing fire protection areas in the South Green lake, McLure, and Loon Lake areas.

All three votes passed overwhelmingly. Michelle Nordstrom, Communications director for the TNRD, says the vote was necessary in order to accomodate changes in legislation to continue to fund the departments, which required that they be registered.

The plan adds $1.09 per 1000 dollar assessed value to area taxes. The final tally for the South Green lake vote was 149 in favour to six against.

The Loon lake Referendum also added authorisation for an up to $653 000 dollar loan to construct 2 new firehalls. For more information, please see the TNRD website.
