District of 100 Mile in the Process of Creating A Firebreak around the community

Nearly one year following last summer’s devastating wildfires, the District of 100 Mile is working very heavily to make sure the community is safer.

Mayor Mitch Campsall says they have identified the areas that need to be cleaned up and are in the process of creating a firebreak.

“It will be different in different areas. I believe there will be a roughly 200-meter break and then there’s going to be another 200-meter break,” he explains.

“They’re working on it as we speak-we haven’t gotten all of the permission yet but forestry is really looking at working with us and the province has been doing a very good job working with us. I believe a good portion of the one part that we are doing right this year should get done.”

Campsall adds that hopefully every year they will be doing more and more until it gets done.

“The province is coming on board to give us a hand with that and we got a community forest as well within that area so they’ve given us a green light to go into areas where we wouldn’t be able to go into before,” he says.

“To make our community safer it’s a must. It has to be done.”
