Thousands Of Quesnel Area Residents Were Briefly Without Power

There was a brief power interruption for more than 12 thousand Quesnel and area residents this morning.

Dave Mosure is with Northern Community Relations with BC Hydro…

“Crews were performing some maintenance work that required some switching of various lines and one of the switches malfunctioned on them causing this particular outage. They rectified it as quickly as they could and at most I think the customers were out for maybe 20, 25 minutes.”

Mosure says crews were working on some larger transmission size lines…

“So they feed large areas into the sub-stations, which then feed it out to the various areas, so when you take the big ones out you get large areas. 12,016 customers temporarily lost power.”

He says the first outages were reported just after 8-30 and that power was back on by 9-02 a.m.
