Wildfire Near Nazko No Longer “Out Of Control”

Progress has been made on a wildfire burning near Nazko.

Jessica Mack is a Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre,

“Crews worked throughout the night last night and they made tremendous progress. The status has now been changed to being held and it is considered 90 percent contained, right now there are 35 personnel, 3 dozers on site.”

Mack says the fire, just south of both Basaeko Road and onululu Road, is estimated at 40 hectares in size.

It is believed that it was caused by lightning.

The fire was reported to the Cariboo Fire Centre on Wednesday.

Mack says they are watching the weather closely once again this weekend…

“This wekeend is looking to be warmer for saturday and we do suspect it will be pretty windy on sunday, gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour.”

Mack says crews will be strategically placed so that they are ready to respond.
