Mt. Polley restart application moves forward with public consultations set to begin

It’s a big step forward for Imperial Metals’ application for a partial restart at the Mt. Polley Mine.
Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines, confirmed late this afternoon that the application has received the go-ahead to be referred to the Mine Development Review Committee.

 

The Review Committee is scheduled to have their first meeting on March 31, with the first community meeting regarding the restart plan at the Likely Community Hall on April 1st starting at 7 pm.

Bennett says a final decision on the application could be made by the summer.
Operations at the Mt. Polley mine have been halted since August 4, 2014, following a breach in their tailings storage facility.
