Stage Now Set For Public Works Facility Referendum In Quesnel

Quesnel City Council has given the first three readings for a New Public Works Facility Loan Authorization Bylaw and for the referendum question.

Kari Bolton is the Director of Finance…

“Are you in favour of the City of Quesnel adopting “City of Quesnel New Public Works Facility Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1854 of 2018″ which will authorize Council to borrow a sum not exceeding eight and half million dollars ($8,500,000), repayable over a period of no more than thirty (30) years, for the development and construction of a new Public Works Facility ?”

Council also approved a public engagement plan for the referendum last night.

That messaging includes the following points.

That the current works yard has reached the point where complete replacement is required, that the current location does not work due to floodplain issues and that borrowing the money over 30 years will mean a 3.2 percent tax increase or the City will have to save the funds over 10 years which would require 7.5 percent tax increase.

If approved by the public, the new facility will be built on Sword Road.

The total cost of the project would be 10.87 million dollars with the rest of the money coming from savings and reserves.
