Temperature Records Fall In The Cariboo

Yesterday will go down as the hottest June 19th in history in most parts of the Cariboo.

Michelle Gelinas with Environment Canada says Quesnel broke a long standing record…

“The high today for Quesnel was 33.7 at the airport and that was a new record for the date. The previous record was 33.3 set in 1912 and records have been kept since 1892.”

Gelinas says Williams Lake also broke a record with a high of 32.

The old mark was 30.7 in 1982 and he says the Lake City is in line for another record today…

“The forecast for Williams Lake is above the record. For Williams Lake the record for today is 30.6 and the forecast is for a high of 32 for Wednesday, so we are actually forecasting a record high. For Quesnel our forecast high for tomorrow is 33 and the record high is 34.4 set in 1912, so not quite the record high but it will be close in any case.’

Gelinas says things will cool off a little to more seasonal highs for Thursday and Friday.

He says it will then get warm again for Saturday and early Sunday when a cold front is expected to move in and bring with it cooler temperatures and even a few showers for Monday and Tuesday.
