RCMP are urging the public to keep road safe this Labour Day long weekend.
“Things that people can do is stay alert, keep their distance between vehicles, and keep their speeds within reasonable limit given the road conditions,” says Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services, Sgt. Mike Hacker.
Hacker adds that having proper rest and trying not to drive for significant periods of time is also important.
“Fatigue has the same symptoms as being impaired driving.”
It is estimated that an average of four people are killed and 560 are injured in 1,900 crashes across the province every year over the Labour Day long weekend.
RCMP say the majority of accidents are caused by human error and are preventable.
“Most of the traffic units are going to be fully staffed,” he says.
“They’ll be out on the highways all weekend making sure that potential accidents are kept down to a minimum and that people are driving safe and appropriately on the highways.
