Mt. Polley strike continues into fourth week

Mt. Polley employees on the picket lines will be getting a visit Monday by the President of the BC Federation Labour Irene Lanzinger as strike action continues into the fourth week.

“I don’t know if it will change anything from the company’s point of view or not, but it’s certainly good to have her come out and as president of the labour movement in British Columbia to show support to the picketers,” says United Steelworkers Local 1-2017 business agent Dan Will.

“The BCFED reached out and called our office and said Lanzinger would like to come out and visit the picket line, talk to some of the picketers, and show support.”

Strike action was initiated by the United Steelworkers on May 23 following a three hour company lockout by Mt. Polley Mining Corporation.

About 200 workers some of which Will says have found work elsewhere are affected.
