GAS SHORTAGE IN PRINCE GEORGE

Prince George and also Quesnel residents may be noticing a shortage of gas at the pumps.

This is due to planned maintenance at the Edmonton Petro-Canada refinery running long. It was expected to take about four weeks but will soon enter its sixth.

“Right here in our own backyard in Prince George, the Husky plant, although it’s not a very big one only 12,000 to 15,000 barrels of oil are processed there every day, that’s probably running at top-notch performance right now,” explains Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy.com Dan McTeague.

“In terms of output, this could last perhaps another week.”

One of the biggest questions on most people’s minds is will this affect the price of gas?

“If there are any price differentials, it’s strictly retailers giving away their margins and then reapplying them at certain points,” McTeague says.

“I’m not seeing anything here on the wholesale side that has dramatic increases as a result of this shortage.”
