Williams Lake Pride Committee Seeks to Install Rainbow Crosswalk

The Williams Lake Pride Committee is eyeing a rainbow crosswalk for the Lake city.

Sitting President, Willa Julius says they already have some ideas in mind as to where it could be located.

“Down by the Arts Centre was an idea that was being thrown around just because we’ve already got the rainbow flag there,” she says. “Another idea we had was by the City clock because that is centered in the town and a lot of people hang out around that area of town too.”

Julius adds that the Committee has been trying to garner up funding for the crosswalk and that they have a budget for it.

The Pride Committee will be presenting its’ proposal for a rainbow crosswalk to Williams Lake City Council at a regular meeting on June 12.

“We encourage people to come out and lend their support,” says Julius adding that their next biggest event will be the Stampede Parade.

“We were at the Dark Times Music Festival where we had a bake sale with pride treats like rainbow rice Krispie squares, rainbow cupcakes, and that was a huge success and we were able to get a lot of donations which we used to buy a banner which we can use for upcoming events,” she says.

“We’re planning on being a part of the Stampede Parade and we would also like to go to some of our other committees out in Quesnel and Prince George and join their parades as they come up.”
