William to receive honorary degree

Xeni Gwet’in Chief Roger William is scheduled to receive an honorary degree from UNBC.

The University which issued a statement yesterday says William will be receiving an honorary at the 2015 convocation at the Prince George Campus on May 29th.

William who has been a lifelong advocate for the preservation of the traditional Tsilhqot’in way of life, was at the center of last year’s historic Aboriginal land title case.

Chief William has also been an active board member with the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training and Education Council since 1990 and served on the RCMP E Division Commanding Officer’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee from 1990 to 2003.

He has represented the West Chilcotin electoral area on the Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors since 2011.
