Tsilhqot’n Nation affirms law for Title Land

It’s another day of making history for the Tsilhqot’in Nation as they have enacted their first Tsilhqot’in Law for Title Land.
Chief Roger William of the Xeni-Gwet’in First Nation, and also Vice Chair of the Tsilhqot’in National Government says they are proud the Nemiah Declaration which was first declared by the Nation on August 23, 1989, in response to the threat of widespread clear-cut logging has been enacted.
William says the Declaration, which is the voice of their elders, outlines specific uses of the land along with how future laws, regulations, and policies may be developed.

A historic Supreme Court of Canada decision on June 26, 2014, granted 1,750 squares kilometers of land to the Tsilhqot’in Nation.
