Palmer Creek Fire Area Evacuation Orders and Alert lifted to All Clear

Residents in the Palmer Creek Fire Area have been given the All Clear to return home.

The Cariboo Regional District, the TŝiDelDel First Nation, and the Tŝilqoht’in National Government lifted the Evacuation Order for the Palmer Creek Fire Area and the Evacuation Alert for Fire Area 2 on August 17th.

The regional district is cautioning residents returning to their homes that the air quality may be poor because of smoke.

Residents in impacted areas are advised to contact an insurance agency to have an assessment for any repairs, particularly for an arborist to look at any dangerous trees near homes.

The Evacuation Alert and Order was issued on August 8 in response to a rapidly growing wildfire. The order covered an estimated 31 parcels of land.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Palmer Creek Fire grew to 2,927 hectares and is listed as Being Held.

Ground Crews and Helicopters are still fighting the fire, cutting into the fire’s perimeter and putting out targeted hot spots.
