Fun was par for the course at Williams Lake Stampeders golf tournament

The Williams Lake Stampeders hockey team received a lot of community support this past weekend.

On Saturday (August 8) the club held a Golf Tournament at the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club where 108 golfers showed up for a fun day on the links.

Head Coach and General Manager Derrick Walters said it was a great day all round.

“We got lots of support from local community members as well as multiple businesses. I’ve heard great things about the day from the golfers as well as our volunteers so it was definitely a successful event for the Stampeders.”

Walters said the money raised will help the team this coming season with some expenses moving forward.

“This is the second year we ran a golf tournament, this one was definitely more planned out rather than some last minute stuff. It’s definitely something we want to keep doing and growing getting the community involved with both the players and our volunteers as well, it’s great fun.”

Walters thanked some of the big sponsors that helped make the Tournament a success, MLA Lorne Doerkson, Peterson Contracting, Williams Lake First Nation and Unity.

Open tryouts for the Williams Lake Stampeders is coming up Tuesdays and Thursdays this September, and Walters said the first game of the regular season, tentatively will be the first weekend of October.
