The Felker Fire 18 kilometres South of Williams Lake has not seen any significant growth over the past 24 hours.
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said their 172 ground crews are focused on mopping up on all flanks of the fire, extending their hose lay around the fire and pushing a 50 to 100 foot wet line around the fire perimeter.
“With underlying drought conditions, heat remaining in large fuels such as stumps and root systems, and one month or more of heating and drying before Fall, mop up and patrol are a critical phase of operations to ensure fire does not spread beyond current containment lines,” BCWS said.
Ground crews are supported in their work by water tenders and a heavy equipment strike team as well as aviation support.
“Given he lightning that tracked through the region Saturday and the potential for lightning-caused holdover fires, crews on the Felker Fire may assist the Central Cariboo Fire Zone with new starts if required” BC Wildfire Service said.
In addition to the firefighters and support personnel, there are 3 helicopters, 17 pieces of heavy equipment and 1 Incident Management Team assign to this fire.
“The Felker Fire is a multi agency response, with ground crews from Quebec, Alberta and the Yukon conducting mop up operations alongside BC Wildfire Service, contract crews and local heavy equipment operators.” BCWS said.
