Quesnel Council receives brief update on new long-term care facility

An update on a new assisted living facility was given in last night’s Quesnel City Council meeting.

The project, owned and constructed by Providence Living, would be for a 288-bed facility in Cariboo Field at 345 Roddis Drive in West Quesnel.

The project outlines that 144 beds would be designated for long-term health care, with the other half for a variety of assisted living needs.

Providence Living advised the City Council that it is in the Development Design Phase, and it anticipates seeking a development permit by late August or early September. It has also sent in a request for early approval to allow construction noise from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Noise regulations in the City’s Nuisance Bylaw permit construction noise from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

Quesnel City Staff reported that if all goes well and forward on time, site preparation could begin in the Fall of 2026, with construction beginning in the Spring and Summer of 2027.

The Providence Living long-term care facility was announced in August of 2024, and if permitting and construction continue on plan, it expects to welcome residents into the facility in late 2028.
