Williams Lake continues to be under an Orange Air Quality Warning.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jennifer Kowal said it’s related to the wildfires burning near Clinton and the wind direction today (July 27) is bringing it right towards the Cariboo.
“There are 2 things that can make the air quality an Orange level,” Kowal said, “1 would be the smoke concentrations and the other could be the duration of the event. Right now it’s a little bit of a combination of both. We have quite bad air quality moving into the region and it may stay over the region for at least two days if not even more.”
Kowal added it looks right now that there could be a little bit of a break mid week but then that flow becomes southwesterly again so there is a lot of things that could happen in that time.
“One could be if the fires shrinks in size, if they get some rain over the fires then it could be ok when the southwesterly winds pick up again that there wouldn’t be as high of a concentration of smoke to move towards Williams Lake. Right now there’s just not a ton of rain in the forecast even though it is showery for the next day and a half. Unfortunately it doesn’t really look like it would ran a lot over Clinton itself and that’s really where we really need it to be raining in order to start dampening down these fires,” Kowal said.
Both Quesnel and 100 Mile House are under a Yellow Air Quality Warning.
