A Yellow Air Quality Warning issued by Environment Canada continues to be in effect for the Cariboo.
Meteorologist Matt Loney said the air quality readings that they are seeing are starting to pick for the day (Wednesday) and it looks like it’s going to continue in this yellow category but we don’t expect it to grade much further.

“In terms of when we might see some improvement, there’s a chance there will be some gradual improvement tonight but I really think it’s going to start tomorrow (Thursday) into the late day when we’ll start to see an upper trough approach the region which is going to change the wind direction a little bit,” Loney said, “Improvement looks like it’s on the way, two days or so, and beyond that it looks much more favorable.”
A Yellow Heat Warning is also in effect for Williams Lake and 100 Mile House.
Loney said the criteria to issue one of these is to have 31 degrees in the day and 14 at night for 2 consecutive days.
“We’re going to see it eclipse certainly for Williams Lake and 100 Mile House. Quesnel is saved by the fact that their overnight lows tend to fall off a little bit more. Things really peak today (July 22) in terms of the heat, even tomorrow there’s a degree or two off the top and then things begin to cool down a little bit more substantially starting on Friday even though we’ll be be well above normal.”
Loney said the weekend looks much cooler as there’s a chance of some showers in the forecast.
