UPDATE: Wildfire west of 100 Mile House now Under Control

** Update, July 17 **

A wildfire in the South Cariboo is now listed as Under Control.

The BC Wildfire Service had successful initial attacks on the wildfire in the Snardie Creek area, around 62 kilometres west of 100 Mile House and south of the Dog Creek Aerodrome.

Fire crews remain at the location and will continue to extinguish hot spots in the fire’s zone throughout the day.

The South Cariboo also had three small wildfires ignite last night south of Meadow Lake and Alberta Lake, around 55 kilometres by vehicle west of 70 Mile House.

These fires are only 9 thousandths of a hectare in size, and at this time, two have already been updated from Out of Control to Being Held.

BC Wildfire confirms there were multiple lightning strikes in the area, but is still investigating these fires’ causes.

** Original Story, July 16 **

A new wildfire is burning in the Cariboo Fire Centre region.

The Cariboo Fire Centre says an out-of-control 10-hectare fire is burning by Snardie Creek along Upper Dog Creek Road, around 62 kilometres west of 100 Mile House, and southeast of the Dog Creek Aerodrome.

The Fire Centre believes lightning strikes in the area caused the fire.

Fire crews are on site establishing control lines with heavy equipment support.

The Cariboo Fire Centre says Air Tankers dropped fire retardants over the area last night, and fire crews have helicopter support over the area today, July 16.
