There were more people working in the Cariboo region compared to a year ago, but the unemployment rate was still up slightly overall.
Julian Alvarez, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats Canada, says the jobless rate was 5.7% last month, up from 5.3 in June of 2025.
There was an increase of almost 13-hundred jobs, mostly full-time, and most of the increases were in wholesale and retail trade and in manufacturing.
Alvarez says there was a decline in the forestry and mining sector.
The national unemployment rate was 6.5%, down from 6.6 in May.
BC’s jobless rate was 6.5% in June as well.
That was tied for 4th out of the provinces.
